NIA Challenges Bail of Varavara Rao and Sudha Bharadwaj in Bhima Koregaon Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought cancellation of bail for activists Varavara Rao and Sudha Bharadwaj in the Bhima Koregaon case, alleging they violated conditions by attending a January 19 gathering at Mumbai Press Club. The NIA claimed the event promoted banned Maoist ideology. Both activists were previously granted bail in 2021–2022. The case stems from 2018 violence linked to the Elgar Parishad conclave, with 16 activists arrested. Most have since received bail, though concerns over evidence integrity persist.
