Israeli Attacks in Lebanon: 51 Dead, Including Medical Workers

The Lebanese Health Ministry reports that Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours have killed 51 people, including two medical workers. The ministry stated that Israel continues to violate international laws and humanitarian norms by directly targeting health facilities in Qalawiya and Tibnin in the Bint Jbeil district. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire is now in its third week, yet attacks persist.

Since March 2, when Israel launched a new military operation, 2,846 people have been killed across Lebanon. The United Nations confirms at least 103 Lebanese medical workers have died and 230 injured in over 130 Israeli strikes. Ali Safiuddin, head of the Lebanese Civil Defence in Tyre, described constant threats: "We ask ourselves if we’re going to survive or if we’re going to die... We’ve lost so many people and it feels like we’re already gone as well."

Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reported from Tyre that international humanitarian laws clearly protect medical personnel and first responders, but on this front line, the question isn’t whether another strike is coming—it’s how many people will be left to answer calls for help. Dr Tahir Mohammed, a war surgeon who worked in both Gaza and Lebanon, noted consistent Israeli policies targeting healthcare workers. He said, “I’ve had colleagues, nurses, medical students killed by Israeli weapons... If Israel had their way, they would occupy all of southern Lebanon tomorrow. They have no care for life.”

Israeli attacks have displaced over 1.2 million Lebanese since March 2. Despite a ceasefire effective April 16, attacks have only increased, undermining humanitarian efforts and endangering rescue workers daily.
