Uttarakhand SIR: Muslim-Heavy Districts See Higher Voter Deletion Intensity
The Sabar Institute found higher voter deletion intensity in Uttarakhand districts with larger Muslim populations during the 2026 Special Intensive Revision. The analysis of 70 assembly constituencies identified 807,410 deleted electors, 57.7% marked as permanently shifted. A strong Spearman correlation of 0.84 linked Muslim population share with deletion intensity, though the institute emphasized statistical patterns do not prove discrimination. Women comprised 52% of affected electors. The study found deletions exceeded winning margins in 45 constituencies compared to 2022 election results. Multidimensional poverty showed weak correlation, while Scheduled Caste population share had negative correlation. The institute called for independent research into deletion processes and stronger safeguards against wrongful exclusion.
