Blast at Pakistan Market Kills Nine, Injures Dozens
An explosion at a market in Sarai Naurang, Pakistan, has resulted in at least nine fatalities and 30 injuries, according to emergency services and medical officials. The blast, caused by a bomb-laden rickshaw, occurred on Tuesday in the Lakki Marwat district near the Afghanistan border.
Among the deceased are two traffic police officers and a woman. Rescue 1122, the emergency response agency, reported that around 30 people were wounded, with seriously injured victims transported to hospitals in Bannu. The medical superintendent of THQ Hospital, Mohammad Ishaq, confirmed receiving 37 patients, some in critical condition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which follows a recent bombing and gun assault on a security post in the nearby Bannu district that killed 21 police officers. Pakistan blamed the Pakistan Taliban (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP) for the assault, but the Afghan Taliban administration rejected the allegation.
Pakistan has accused Afghanistan's Taliban government of sheltering TTP fighters, a claim denied by Kabul. The surge in violence in Pakistan, with the TTP and other armed groups becoming more active, has led to escalating tensions between the two countries. China-mediated negotiations in April aimed to end the violence, but sporadic clashes have continued.
