Father Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Teen Daughter, Burying Body

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her father in Tumakuru district, India, in what police describe as an honor killing. The victim, Meghana, was killed after her father, Thimmarayappa, 48, opposed her relationship with a boy from her mother’s family. The incident occurred in Nimberadahalli village in Sira taluk.

According to investigators, Thimmarayappa strongly objected to the relationship despite family plans to allow the marriage once Meghana reached adulthood. On April 16, after another argument, he allegedly killed his daughter and buried her body in a trench near his farmland to hide the crime. He then filed a missing person complaint at Kallambella Police Station, pretending ignorance of her disappearance.

Police grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in his statements and his sudden disappearance during the probe. After being detained, Thimmarayappa reportedly confessed to the murder. Authorities recovered Meghana’s body from the burial site, and a postmortem was conducted with forensic experts present. A case has been registered for murder and destruction of evidence, and further investigation is ongoing.
