Delhi HC Acquits Muslim Man in Interfaith Marriage Case, Cites Family Pressure Behind Rape, Kidnapping Charges
Mohammad Quasim, a Delhi-based bindi seller, was acquitted by the Delhi High Court in a 2004 kidnapping and rape case. The court ruled his Hindu wife initially married him willingly under the Special Marriage Act. She later changed her testimony due to social and parental pressure. The court noted she was 18, above the legal age of consent. Quasim spent nearly two years in jail during the 18-year legal battle.
