Delhi Court Bail for Bhardwaj Assault

A Delhi court granted three weeks of interim bail to Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj in a case involving the alleged assault on the father of student activist Nishu Aazad during a protest at Jantar Mantar. Bhardwaj, arrested in Uttar Pradesh on September 5, faced charges including voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. After protests demanding his arrest, additional charges under the SC/ST Act and criminal intimidation were added, along with a separate POCSO case. His lawyer argued the arrest was politically motivated, citing a video showing the complainant initiating violence. The defense also claimed Bhardwaj acted in self-defense, fearing for his life. The court ruled that Bhardwaj was arrested in the SC/ST case, not the POCSO case.
