Madhya Pradesh HC Halts Prayer at Kamal Maula Mosque, Declares it a Temple; Land for New Mosque Allocated

The Madhya Pradesh High Court declared the 11th-century Bhojshala monument a temple, ending Muslim prayers at the Kamal Maula Mosque complex. The court directed the state to consider allotting alternate land in Dhar district for a new mosque. The ruling quashed a 2003 ASI order allowing shared Hindu-Muslim worship. Senior advocate Salman Khurshid argued archaeological findings alone cannot determine religious character, citing the Babri verdict and the Places of Worship Act, 1991. The Muslim community plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.
