NHRC Intervenes as Police Brutality Alleged in Dalit Student Murder Protest

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Uttar Pradesh's top police and administrative officials over allegations of excessive force used against protesters demanding justice for Dalit student Lalita Gautam, who was murdered and later found in Rohtak. The commission's intervention follows claims that police assaulted protesters, including an incident where a senior officer allegedly beat a protester inside a police vehicle. Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad accused the police of using excessive force and demanded a fair investigation, strict action against those responsible, and an impartial probe into the police action against protesters.
