MP's UCC: Legal Recognition for One Marriage, CM Yadav
Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) that will recognize only one legal marriage. The UCC, drafted by a committee led by a former Supreme Court judge, will be presented to the state cabinet and introduced in the Assembly in July. Yadav argued for a single law for all citizens, criticizing separate personal laws for different religions. He referred to the abolition of instant triple talaq, stating that it's no longer permissible. The draft UCC excludes Adivasi communities and aims to govern marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.
