Ahmedabad Police detained 61 people in a Diwali drive on Sunday night. Women and children were among those held in the raids across town. Most were said to be Bangladeshi people from areas in the city. They were taken first to the Crime Branch office downtown for checks. Police said deportation steps had begun but gave no proof of origin.
