Chikkaballapur Hospital Negligence: Family Protests After Woman's Death Post-Sterilisation Surgery
In Chikkaballapur, a government hospital in Chintamani taluk faces allegations of medical negligence following the death of a 24-year-old woman, Narmada G.N., after a sterilisation surgery. Her family claims doctors damaged her small intestine during the procedure, leading to severe infection and subsequent health deterioration. They allege concealment of the complication and inadequate timely treatment.
Narmada, a resident of Batlahalli village, is survived by her husband and two young sons. Her family has lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police, seeking legal action against gynaecologist Dr. Vani Reddy and senior doctor Dr. Narayanaswamy. Protesters demand their suspension and a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Dr. Vani Reddy maintains that the patient's intestine suffered minor damage during surgery and was treated immediately with the assistance of senior doctors. She claims Narmada had recovered and returned home three days prior to her death. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained. Tension prevails at the hospital premises as relatives and villagers demand justice and accountability from the health department.
