One in 17 Children Engaged in Child Labour Worldwide; India Records 10.1 Million Cases

Despite global efforts, child labour remains a critical issue, with 138 million children working worldwide, including 54 million in hazardous conditions. India recorded 10.1 million child labourers in 2011. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for nearly two-thirds of global child labour. Agriculture employs most child labourers. Boys are disproportionately affected. Poverty, weak protections, and limited education access drive the problem. The UN's 2025 elimination target remains unfulfilled.
