West Bengal Govt Abolishes Religious Categorization in Welfare Schemes, Ends Madrasa, Minority Assistance

The West Bengal government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, decided to discontinue religion-based welfare schemes from June, ending programs linked to madrasa and minority affairs departments. The cabinet also scrapped the existing state OBC list following a High Court ruling. Additionally, the government announced a new "Annapurna" scheme providing Rs 3,000 monthly to women and approved free bus travel for women. These measures fulfill key BJP election promises, doubling previous benefits. The cabinet also formed the 7th State Pay Commission.
