56 Perish in Uttar Pradesh as Violent Storms and Heavy Rain Cause Widespread Destruction

At least 56 people died after violent storms and heavy rain hit Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The storm uprooted trees, damaged homes, and caused widespread destruction across many districts. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the situation and ordered officials to provide compensation and relief to affected families within 24 hours.

Prayagraj recorded the highest number of deaths at 17, followed by 16 in Bhadohi, nine in Fatehpur, five in Badaun, four in Pratapgarh, two each in Chandauli and Kushinagar, and one in Sonbhadra. In Bhadohi, powerful winds uprooted trees and electricity poles, while several houses suffered damage. In Fatehpur, nine people were killed and 16 others injured due to the storm and heavy rainfall.

In Pratapgarh, four people died in separate incidents involving collapsing walls, cemented sheds, and lightning strikes. In Kanpur Dehat, a 19-year-old woman named Ruchi died after lightning struck near a neem tree where she had taken shelter with goats. Several goats were also killed, and a 60-year-old man nearby sustained injuries. In Deoria, two people died from separate lightning strikes, and in Sonbhadra, a 38-year-old man died when an uprooted tree fell on him.

Chief Minister Adityanath directed District Magistrates and officials to visit affected areas and ensure all possible assistance for victims and their families. He also instructed the Revenue and Agriculture Departments, along with insurance companies, to conduct a detailed assessment of the losses and submit reports to the government.
